The kids are all abducted by Cool Rat and brought into the various cliques. Sam wastes no time in not only accepting the place, but thriving in it. Oliver… not so much success as a ninja. Jack explores the forbidden areas and makes a friend. And Tristan starts his own clique when he forces them to make him a willing prisoner. The kids and monsters start to get themselves together for one big step up to overthrow their new captor.

• Toku: Oliver, son of archeologists, getting a lot of secondhand history from the history channel and Indiana Jones. His monster is Ankh (Crazon), a hypnotic and megalomaniac Egyptian guardian
• Eli: Tristan, smooth talker who picked up a lot of tricks from his old conman grandpa. His monster is Red (Toku) a pendant that turns into a giant metallic dragon, or power armor for his antiheroic kid
• Crazon: Jack, a well-meaning kid people think is related to David Bowie. Way into the “Pizza” chain of movies by John Carpenter, especially after his monster Savy Jean (Eli) emerged from his ancient copy of it as his sassy goblin pirate captain
• Max: Sam, the hip daughter of an A-list celebrity, picked up in Oz. Does whatever she feels like, since she’s (1) not that bright (2) gives no fucks because she’s stupid rich (and 3) gives no fucks because she’s protected by Cranium, the trippy, hyperactive fox that literally lives in her head
